A thread on the great Silas Soule, one of the few figures from Old West history that I unequivocally consider a hero.

Be warned, this is going to get rough...

And finally a message from Andy to all of you

The cover wisely featured Andy Devine & no one else from the cast. Devine would remain one of the top draws in Western Comics for decades... with his only real rival being Jimmy Durante, of course:

A May 1939 comic book adaptation of Stagecoach, with art "assembled" by Jack Adler. This was in Movie Comics #2 (1939) published by DC Comics (1/3)

And here's Andy Devine singing Jesus Loves Me with a cat & mouse on his kid's show Andy's Gang. You're not prepared for this video, believe me

While filming The Wild Bunch, Bo Hopkins asked for the squibs to be taped directly to his skin so that he would give a naturally pained performance*

It's kind of amazing how Matt Clark is in every great 70s Western outside of maybe 3. He turns 89 next month & I hope he lives forever. Look at this Western filmography

In 1922, while the Osage Murders were still happening, Buster Keaton & Edward F. Kline made The Paleface, which focused on Natives being murdered by "oil sharks" for their land rights:

That same script literally has a suburb in it! Zahler does zero research
davidlambertart.bsky.social
For the record, I think Zahler is a doofus who has an odd obsession with depicting Natives as cannibals even though this was anathema to North American tribes outside of the Tonkawa. I've read/seen 4 of his Westerns & 3 of them depict Natives as cannibals (Brigands has 2 cannibalistic tribes)

The Zahler interview is from 10 years ago too. Maybe he's changed his mind since then? 🤷‍♂️

I dislike this script, but Park Chan-Wook could make it work. S. Craig Zahler previously stated that he's not excited about Park directing The Brigands of Rattleborge (the original title) because he doesn't think you can get good performances through a translator
