Golden-crowned kinglets rock their trademark yellow, but the males have multiple colors and sometimes flash a bit of red up top.

The American bittern is typically a shy heron, hiding in the reeds. This one, at DC’s Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, was unusually visible. My what big feet you have.

Rainbow arc above the late-afternoon sun in Chevy Chase today. You can see a less distinct band, closer to the sun, in the lower right. Two other rainbow areas were also visible to the left and right of the sun. @capitalweather.bsky.social
