Imagine you're at a party having a casual 1:1 conversation with an old friend. And someone listening nearby says "hey everyone, these two are talking about politics!" And suddenly the entire party (of mostly strangers) wants to argue with or against you. That's what happened here.

I worked in a bio lab at ASU that was in the School of Earth and Space Exploration building. About once a year we'd get a hopeful visitor with a "meteor", asking for help ID'ing it. (It was never a meteor, just a weird looking rock.)

My partner is flying back from overseas on Monday, she departed two weeks ago. "No need to fret about delays, surely the shutdown will be over by the time you come back", I said. Now I'm wondering just how many extra hours she will spend in air travel hell.
