One of the most fascinating stories to me from World War II is how James Doolittle took a group of B-25 Mitchell Bombers that were never designed to deploy from a carrier and modified them to be able to deploy from a carrier and attack Japan.

One of the most unique and most popular locations on the Blue Ridge Parkway is Graveyard Fields. It’s one of my favorites as well. You have great overlook with several nice hikes to waterfalls and along creeks. The valley is filled with blueberries.

At the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show I was mostly at the far end of the flightline so I could catch the close-up views of the performers turning in front of us.

Warbirds Over Monroe Close-Ups: I finally had a chance to put together some of the close-up video passes from the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show. The T-6 passes are with Thom Richard, followed by the iconic sound of the QuickSilver P-51 whistle with Scooter Yoak and a P-40 pass with Thom Richard.

One of my favorite sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway is the area around Graveyard Fields. There’s so much to enjoy in that area. I had not been to Sunburst Falls before, so when Tommy Meyer and I were there in early October, we decided to venture off the parkway for a bit and check it out.

Fleur De Lis: I haven’t shared any U.S. Navy Blue Angels media in a while and I’m missing seeing them. I originally planned to see them four times this year--twice in April, once in June and once in October.

Ooops! At the Warbirds Over Monroe Airshow, we had a night shoot opportunity with an engine run with a few birds. With a group of photographers all standing in the same place, we all likely have very similar shots. I think this shot is a unique one.

A few weeks ago, I shared an image from my fall trip to Anna Ruby Falls in Georgia. That was a wider view including the creek. Here is a closer view from the observation deck at the base of the falls.

One of the great things about the fall season on the Blue Ridge Parkway is that within a very short distance you have a large elevation change. This allows you to experience the fall colors over the course of several weeks.

With the Blues and C-17 scrapped due to the shutdown, there were not going to be any jets performing at the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow. Fortunately, they were able to add Scott Farnsworth and his Aero L-39 Albatross at the last minute.

Timing: Sometimes you are just in the right spot at the right time and catch something extra in the background. I was excited when it looked like the jump plane from the Chuters Parachute Team was going to fly right behind one of the jumpers at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show.

Last time I was at Vogel State Park in Georgia during the fall color season there wasn’t much color above the Trahlyta Waterfall. This year was a different story, colors were abundant. This was taken on October 30th.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen a wingwalker performance, so I was excited to see Wingwalker Sam (Samantha Tryggvason and pilot Mike Tryggvason) on the list of performers for the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show.

Last weekend at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show was my first time seeing a Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe. This is a replica from the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. You don’t typically think of a jet flying at the end of World War II.

Last weekend at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show was amazing. I met some great new people and had a blast capturing the action. One of the photo pit areas was set up right at the turn marker so planes were turning near the end of the runway very close to us.

QuickSilver P-51 vs Jet Car: What a great combination! Scott "Scooter" Yoak racing Bill Braack and the Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Car with some great pyro from the Tora pyro team at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show.

Texan Sunrise: At the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show, we had some great flying action but also had some great static items to shoot. Ricardo von Puttkammer’s Photo Pit attendees arrived at 6:15 AM for sunrise.

A close-up view of Thom Richard flying the P-40 at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show. The lineup was fabulous.

It was a great weekend meeting lots of new aviation photographers, pilots and enthusiasts.

On this Veterans Day we honor all of those who served in the past and who are serving today for their country. Thank you so much for your service!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes view of the QuickSilver P-51 image I shared yesterday from the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show. I will often setup my second body with a wider lens and just see what gets captured while I’m shooting with my main body.

I had the most amazing day yesterday in the photo pit at the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show! I took so many pictures and was completely exhausted at the end of the 13 hours of activity, but it was so worth it. I just had time to process this one image.

This morning, I was able to visit somewhere I haven’t been in five years. I wasn’t sure what the color would be like at Upper Whitewater Falls but figured I would check it out and see. It was past peak, but there were still some trees with color.
