I’m reading in the park. It’s sunny, but I’m in the shade. The cicadas are a constant whistle, in undulating waves. Their little bodies litter the ground. I picked up one still struggling and hold it to a tree. It grabs hold. A better place to die, I think, than kicking upside down on concrete.

Instead of carving pumpkins, I build faces on them with clay. This has been in the weather on the porch of a local café for a few weeks. Nicely creepy.
