First poetry book in a while that I haven’t just skimmed through, picking out a few gems. This is a book to go back to, to spend time with, to befriend.

Pretty much every book I could get was my favourite. What I remember better is all the places I found to read them. In the shoe cupboard, in the loft, under a tree in an overgrown garden, in a shed in a builder's yard where the roof had blown off...

I sat down to write with half an idea, telling myself, 'Lets see if this is anything.' It's an exciting feeling!

I read Serpico back in the seventies and was determined to root out corruption in my little town :-)
