I draw comics. When I've got time I read them and sometimes write about them, too. Artist on http://mightygodking.com/al-rashad/
This is so interesting. I had no idea. I talk about Maslow's hierarchy all the time so I'm definitely going to incorporate this into my classes

Such a good point. I don't know what other people's ratios are like but 99% of what I draw doesn't make it to the internet, and I draw every day.

...But buying a fancy extender goes against the appeal of not having to keep track of any particular pencil. I've been trying out a DIY paper extender

Coincidentally, I've been deep diving into pencil extenders recently. A friend gave me a big box of pencils, and while I like the disposable-ness of using regular pencils I'm also starting to feel wasteful because I've got a heap of stubby pencils.

Oh man, I'm sure there are movies I'd be less likely to recommend to you in particular than that one, but I'm hard pressed to think of any.

I just started watching MSG for the first time a few weeks back, and I've been surprised by:
1) How engaging it is
2) How brutal some of the combat is
3) How openly and bluntly they portray PTSD, and
4) How many echoes of this I recognize in the anime I watched in the 80s

They made the right choice. That's a great looking cover

No need to post the essay, I get it. Makes perfect sense.

Interesting. I haven't watched them in a decade, but I always took the middle one to be the weaker entry.

Also, Rickman's diaries were published after his death, and I've just read bits and pieces, but there's some good moviemaking anecdotes and behind-the-scenes insights in there, all delivered with that same pointed dryness.

It's a really good episode of a really good podcast. All kinds of "making of" information along with a deep and thoughtful discussion about the film. Paul Scheer is one of the hosts, and he was hired to write a TV reboot of Galaxy Quest, but it never materialized (unintended Star Trek pun?).

The Unspooled podcast did a great episode on Galaxy Quest and they spent quite a bit of time on the Alan Rickman/ Tim Allen relationship. Rickman was evidently frustrated by Allen's refusal/inability to be genuine on set, but Rickman warmed a bit to Allen after the scene in question.

I rented this movie on VHS as a new release in the 90s, and hated it. Through circumstances beyond my control, over the next few months I wound up watching it 5x (like I'd walk into a party and they'd have just put it on). I warmed more to it on each viewing, until by the last time I loved it.

I *wish* I had that kind of sway. I'd prioritize getting them all to consistently push their chairs in at the end of class (and about twelve other things) before I got to the gender thing, though.

One of the all time great trailers

The Killer was my first and favourite John Woo movie.

The nice thing about this run they've got going at the theatre is that there are multiple showings for each movie. It's not 'one day and you missed it.' That said, I did manage to miss the screenings they had of Hard Boiled.

In a few weeks they're doing a triple feature of these movies at The Cinematheque.

I wonder if that guy will do like guy Cheney shot and apologize to Trump for creating an awkward moment.

Do none of these people have kids? I can't even get him to put his shoes on when we have to be somewhere twenty minutes ago
