Retired lawyer with many interests (roses, jazz, opera, history, poetry) and little time to pursue them. Life-long Democrat, hoping all I know about the USA, our Constitution, and our Democratic Republic will not turn out to be wrong. No DMs please.
I agree. The problem with laws that might justify this is that they are, as many have noted, “pre-crime.” Membership in or association with a particular group is by itself evidence of criminal activity or an actual crime. It’s RICO on steroids. W and Cheney crossed that line.

Interesting. Putting aside the “corrupt pedophile” part, are there any circumstances, backed by any quantum of evidence, that would in your view justify seizure of a foreign oil tanker? Not legally. (Clearly there are, although here it seems doubtful.) Morally.

I don’t think such a person exists, including his wife and children. Can you imagine living with that every day of your life, having to praise and pamper him, tiptoeing around his rages? The patience of Job wouldn’t be enough.

Exactly. Trump’s EO is written to be prospective only, but that’s not usually how the constitution works. If you were were born here, but are denied citizenship because your parents weren’t citizens, then what about if they were but their parents weren’t? Oddly, naturalization could be safer.

Soon we will be debating whether a cruise missile attack wiping out a “narco-terrorist village” in Venezuela was a war crime and whether Hegseth’s meme showing Kermit the Frog executing prisoners was funny or in poor taste. There is no bottom.

“Damned if I know, Jake. He’s well into some form of dementia. He’s not aware who we are or where he is half the time, and sometimes he forgets he is president.”
“Of course that’s a personal matter and no business of ours. Besides, looks like we are out of time. Thank for being with us today.”

Perhaps you were answering your own question, but a “no” on the pardon. State charges cannot be pardoned by the president. Nor can they release her (legally, at least, but who knows with this bunch?). They can put her in a nicer place, but I doubt she’s in any kind of a hellhole. Bit of a mystery.

I forgive you, my son, for whatever grievous sin you have committed. But stand by your pledge and amend your ways, for remember here it is be chipper or wood chipper.

Is she facing federal charges? Does she have a federal sentence to discharge? Do they want her to testify in a federal case? Short of one of those, I can’t think of any legal basis for this request. Can anyone out there supply one?
