Begum’s case creates 2nd class citizens who can be made stateless. el-Fattah’s abhorrent views should be examined and, if an offence has been committed, he should be prosecuted. Begum should have been as well To make them stateless makes hundreds of thousands of Brits less secure.

As a naturalised British citizen I took the Begum precedent to imply that I am not really British - as my wife constantly reminds me. Less amusing is the fact that my children, although neither were registered at birth with SA embassy, can be stripped of their nationality.
