“When in doubt: shorter paragraphs” is one of my standard pieces of editorial advice that almost everyone gets. (Historians are a wordy group overall.)

Well, depending on design of the finished book: approximately 2000-2900 characters per page (includes spaces.) We assume an average of 6.07 characters per word. So whatever that maths out to

250 words is what we call a standard manuscript page (double spaced, 12 pt, 1” margins) so… less than that I think
