Thank you so much to José Ramón Alonso for sharing my article Celebrating Cajal: A Legacy in Line, Light, and Thought on his incredible blog dedicated to honoring and expanding public understanding of Cajal’s legacy. Your introduction moved me deeply.

The process examines his process through the act of drawing & by doing so I have gained insight; he did not always sketch his work in pencil prior to using ink. His level of competence & rigor enabled him to execute his work in ink without sketching in pencil first. #FulbrightProgram #FulbrightSpain

This exhibition features my artwork that depicts aspects of Santiago Ramón y Cajal’s scientific research. Cajal is considered by many to be the father of modern neuroscience. Through a series of ink media drawings, I illustrate and reinterprets Cajal’s scientific illustrations. #DrawingoftheDay #NIH

I’m also featuring several of my #Baroque-influenced works which bridge my #SpectacleSpectacular series and my #RamónyCajal / #Cajal inventory. Created through a divergent process, these pieces explore the idea of vices disguised as virtues, drawing on #GreekMythos and #PopCulture. #AllegoricalArt

This love, built on partnership and mutual support, became an essential foundation for his work. Cajal’s tribute to his wife reminds us that even the most revolutionary scientific achievements are deeply human, shaped by the connections & companionship that sustain them. #neurology #drawingoftheday

In his autobiography Cajal said: "I determined to marry, contrary to the advice of my parents and friends, who presaged a disaster. For an impenitent dreamer, a despiser of filthy lucre and of all social prejudices, it is obvious that my marriage had necessarily to be a love match." #neuroscience

Like Cajal’s neuron drawings, these portraits uncover hidden rhythms—the way patterns, repetition, and memory shape our sense of self. We are all made of stories and connections— just like the brain, portraiture is about making those invisible links visible.

This series of portraits is more than ink on paper. It’s a visual inventory of my daughter’s evolving identity—her experiences as a biracial adoptee, the small details that make her unique & the larger histories that shape us all.

Pink is linked to dopamine release—creating feelings of nostalgia, openness. Softer pastels activate the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation, comfort). Vivid/hot pinks stimulate the limbic system (arousal, excitement, attention).
