Which do you prefer, Christmas pudding, mince pies, or trifle? Other than the pie, these are not typical treats here in the US, and not mince. Apple pie is popular, especially here in Virginia where we grow them. Which gives you the most satisfaction? Cooking a special meal for your family? Not anymore. Those days have passed. I enjoyed them at the time but I am just as happy to pass the baton to the younger generation.

Each year Santa comes down our street in a fire engine. There are lots of kids on my street these days. 2 boys next door, three girls across the street and more. Where we live he comes down the top half of the hill and then turns at our block to go up and around again, visiting the side streets.

Few houses have chimneys anymore; it makes my job much harder. This house for instance; I peer through the sliding glass door and it appears quiet. I tug but it’s locked. I give it a wink and a nod and it moves effortlessly. I step inside and all is quiet, not a creature stirring. The stockings are hung on the mantle and I make quick work of them.

Margaret leads us this week with the theme 12 Days of Christmas. I found this extremely difficult and in the end photographed some ornaments with the theme. Check out Margaret's post. I spent Friday night with my youngest and his wife baking and decorating sugar cookies. It was a first for my son and I, and the first time my daughter-in-law made them. We had SO much fun! Andrew stepped into to lend some muscle when it came time to roll out the dough and I adore this picture of his wife looking at him. How blessed am I to have a woman like this marry my son? Very. I helped decorate cookies with my son and DIL Friday night. It was so much fun! While Haley is the true talent of the bunch, we still were able to make fun of her and ourselves. Although we each did about a dozen cookies I picked out a decorated snowmen from each of us.  Haley's is the best, but Andrew wanted to know  why her snowman was wearing bikini bottoms.

Did anyone read you a bedtime story when you were a child? My mother read to me. Did you read bedtime stories to anyone? I love reading to children. I read to all of my kids and to any grandchild that was within hearing distance. Do you prefer to read a book, and ebook/kindle, or audio book? I prefer my Kindle.

When we were kids, my little sister and I spent whole weekends watching old black and white movies. We loved them! When we got older, my sister told me  as a child, she believed that the people in the past lived in black and white. I was determined to write a Christmas story, but this prompt did not make it easy.
