It's rough sometimes, but remember that reading isn't a job (most of the time). If you aren't feeling it then don't feel bad about just doing something else. Eventually you'll come back and get reading again.

Do you mean a draft of an entry in one of those series? or the whole series?
It's good to work on what excites you, but that can backfire. I'd pick what you feel confident in completing, and drop concern for political climate/trends. By the time you're ready to publish they'll have changed anyway.

Looks like it’s based on a short story by Ted Chiang. For a short story, you need to find the audiobook of an anthology. It’s called “story of your life”. It was published as part of a collection of his called “stories of your life and others” which looks like it does have an audiobook version
