Yoongi said it best - like it or not, music is his life. Every corner of every moment has music in it somewhere. He could do other things for money but like most obsessive creatives this is what he wakes up in the morning thinking about above all else, and the other things would get in the way

Though as I think about some of the Gen X stuff, especially for men, was their version of Puritan counterculture against their Boomer parents. Obsession with money, status, clean-cut imagery (basically American Psycho) was a version of this that we’ve come back to

This I think is also why it’s a trend mostly among whites, who actually do have a permissive Western culture, as opposed to non-white. But I’m not an expert in any of this!

To me youth years are always extremist counterculture, which manifests as hedonism when the culture is conservative and Puritanism when the culture is permissive. Teenagers have only really existed as a cultural Western force since the 60s so this is the first time we’ve really seen the Puritan side

Yes, this event is thematically tied to the Run BTS episode where they had to solve all of those puzzles in the car museum and JK sort of loped around, confident that the hyungs would sort it out, until he learned that everyone had to solve their own puzzles before leaving and he was trapped

Sometimes I remember how Jungkook showed up to do the World Cup song recording, and he was startled that no one else from BTS was there because he thought it was a group song, and what that must mean for how he approaches his packed, costly, detailed schedule, i.e. in a state of constant surprise
