It was really weird that people thought we could go back to Stonewall without also getting back the conditions that created Stonewall

Tbh I have noticed a lot of anti-assimilationist, counter-culture queer people who are nevertheless obsessed with pop culture far more than the norm and whose concept of real queerness never goes beyond entertainers with the right aesthetics (and whom their mom doesn't like)

"Gen Z hates Trump now according to polls!"

The fact that 18-29s were algorithmed into giving him +10 approval and then algorithmed again into hating him within months is bad, actually

that recent subway takes video where the guy pretends no REAL queer people ever liked Ellen, Queer Eye, or of course Pete was absurd.

Like, for one, stop pretending we all didn't love Ellen and her role in normalizing gayness. That's why her exposure hit so hard.

When I lived in NYC, every time I mentioned that I volunteer for NYC Pride I would have to brace myself for a sneering conversation about "corporate pride" and needling me on if I've considered the Queer Liberation March

And yet over 1 mil attend NYC Pride so someone has to be showing up

I actually posted about this recently. I've realized how much of my anxiety comes from the fact that I am constantly told that half the things I enjoy are stupid cringe sellout bs

Both red state and blue state liberals have this issue. Purple state libs stay winning.

I think it is sometimes rooted in a desire to think your family and neighbors are not actually racist or dumb but just *unreached*

No no no THIS local primary is a fight for the soul of the party and the other guy is literally a dangerous evil bastard and basically a republican and their supporters deserve death

huh? no I don't live in the district, or have even ever been there, but doesn't that make my investment mean MORE?
December 9, 2025 at 7:04 PM
idk if you can blame this guy, who is actively positioning himself against the party and is being pushed by people who hate the party (i.e. Ryan Grim) on Democrats

It's getting to the point that when I see a stereotypically hunky dude claiming he has Bernie politics and is running for office, my alarm bells start to go off. It's such an easy grift.

(see the dude who just announced in MI-01, an R+20 district, that the usual suspects are already fawning over)
December 3, 2025 at 9:38 PM
There is a big divide atm between people who find pushy, performatively masculine dudebros tiresome and people who fetishize them but wish they had different politics.

I am the former, a lot of the online left (and way too many queer people) seem to be the latter.

Even AOC has publicly said that their brand doesn't work everywhere and we need to match the candidate to the district. Running a Mamdani-inspired campaign in an R+20 is sus af

someone once asked why an ex-Jeb! guy like Tim Miller is doing a better job of relentlessly promoting Dems than the ex-Obama guys, and I said that an ex-Jeb! guy is comfortable with being uncool, but Obama alum got a taste of coolness and never recovered

I think a lot of their questionable decisions lately can be chalked up to "they are now middle aged and no longer capture the youthful zeitgeist, and this has put them in both financial and emotional crisis"

no one likes realizing that their peak is behind them
December 1, 2025 at 9:37 PM
Idk, I keep hearing "Dems never used performative wokeness!" on here but when I go back to dig into the archives of 2020-2022 messaging I find many, many examples of every policy being filtered through an academic social justice lense by elected Dems

People seem genuinely in denial about it
November 24, 2025 at 8:02 PM
We got through the entire primary and general with Mamdani's fans believing that the NYC mayor can make the busses free if he just wants to enough, and Hochul is taking the heat for it
November 24, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Does she, though? Ever since the rise Bernie, the MO seems to be to promise the moon way outside of your potential power, accuse your opponents of being feckless centrists for pointing that out, and then blame the "Establishment" when it doesn't get done. People fall for it every time!

They were big on Twitter too. I think a lot of them bring over their twitter following
November 24, 2025 at 7:48 PM
And *that* after "If Establishment Democrat™️ does not go out of their way to commend him on his victory then they are a jealous loser, but if they do they are just trying to ride his coattails and are a loser" is just...sigh

I am so exhausted by in-group/out-group politics.

Not a fan of how running for congress has become something for political influencers to do to boost their profile. The needs of their specific district are usually an afterthought to the campaign in favor of their social media brand

I used to live in NY-12, not much of this feels tailored to it
