If you live in an HOA in Washington State and are not worried about the legal fees and additional bureaucracy that come with WUCIOA (RCW 64.90), it's probably because you're unfamiliar with it

I'm learning Rust for this lifetime (seemingly) and struggling with the many ways to do pattern-matching and the many "combinators" (.or_else, .unwrap_or, .unwrap_or_else, etc.).

I just want to stick with the delightful match and ?

Two contrasting experiences providing feedback recently.

Emailed Clarins, prompt acknowledgment of the issue I was facing and a solution was shipped. I had to chase because of delayed shipping but, when it arrived problem solved and I'll buy from Clarins again.

Imagine if there were regular US$5 million awards for courageous, honest reporting. That could incentivize truth-seeking and mitigate professional risk for journalists.

One of the nicest things that someone did for me (louplummer.lol/nice-stranger/) was to save my first dog's life.

I'd just adopted him from the Seattle Humane Society after we'd both waited 3 months for me to move across the country to WA.

Exceptional times here with the flooding in the PNW but, if you have the tools, you should use them. WM's service alerts says "There are no service alerts active in your area". Collection was understandably not possible but what's the plan? Even a "please bear with us ..." would be useful.

I think it would be useful if Prometheus Exporters published a /docs endpoint, alongside /metrics, that explained motivations and provided PromQL and alerting examples. Otherwise, the /metrics endpoint can sometimes feel like a list of variables and values. (pretired.dazwilkin.com/posts/251204/)

Upgraded Google Home to Gemini (good) today but the upgrade UI includes a dark pattern in offering (!?) "Google Home Premium (name?) for 30 days" with only a "Next" button.

Instead, click the "X" at the top of the screen to finalize the upgrade to Gemini without being forced to try Home Premium.

One distasteful aspect of Stack Overflow is how after contributing content for free, some obsequious drone will come along and edit all humanity from it

Hear me out... Roast chicken and roast summer corn heated with a grocery store curry sauce (panang). Optional extra: thai basil from a friend's yard.

I wrote an [MCP](modelcontextprotocol.io) server over the weekend for [Prometheus](prometheus.io). It's called [`prometheus-mcp-server`](github.com/DazWilkin/pr...) and it's very much a work-in-progress. I blogged about it [Prometheus MCP Server](pretired.dazwilkin.com/posts/250616/).
