What I was saying was that if he conceded the corner and pulled in behind Piastri and stayed within 0.5 seconds of Piastri at the DRS zone he could've passed him there and not had a penalty at all.

But when you have a higher top speed and DRS on top of that you have a much higher top speed in the DRS zones, I think if Max could have stayed within 0.5 of a second of Piastri he could've passed with DRS later in the lap.

The high downforce/high drag obviously gives them more stability in the high speed corners, but leaves them more vulnerable on the long straights, so Piastri couldn't quite get close enough and more time he spent behind Max the more it destroyed his front tyres from the dirty air from Max's car.

Because it is well known that the McLaren has a bit more downforce that it's rivals, this means that they have more drag which equates to a slightly lower top speed, looks at Lando and Lewis, Lando passed Lewis in first DRS zone, but was easily passed by Lewis in the second zone.

But it was Max who put himself in that position, there was no way he was going to make it around the outside, he didn't want to concede the corner when he had already lost it, the sensible thing to have done is back out, pull in behind Piastri and then try and pass him in one of the drs zones.

Piastri was ahead at the apex therefore it was his corner, Max was never going to make the corner, when you watch the onboard footage from Max's car he is still steering to the left even though he's going off the track.

We're you watching the same race?

How exactly did Piastri go off track?
