friendly reminder that urine drug screens are bad tests, they miss a lot of things and a lot of common/benign medications can trigger false positives

it's basically an EM boards question to NOT make clinical decisions based on UDS
Urine Drug Screen False Positives
Update 12/31/2025: I found and added a bunch more, including a column for false positives for fentanyl assays and more for LSD and a bunch o...

Question for future pod.

Summer 2026 transfer window. What do you see as priorities for incoming signings?
Defence? Protégés goalie?
My one wish, given Arteta’s preference for EPL tested players: Morgan Rodgers.
Likely £100M but competition for Martinelli, Leo moving on??

Happy New Year!
You & James (and whole Arseblog team) make me feel very connected as a Gooner from all the way in Vancouver.

Given the self professed closeness and communication they both have endorsed, likely conversation spring 2025:
Toc: Quinn, you re-signing?
Q: Hell no!
Toc: Didn’t think so, good luck

But local Nucks media, podcasts more than happy to drink from the JR/PA firehose of BS. See: Drance, Donnie & Dhali, H & B, list is endless.

Knee tendinitis is probably the worst non-surgical injury for an elite hockey player. Painful every time you push or pivot, hard to rehab, no “x-ray evidence “ to convince useless Nucks medical staff/mgmt you’re still hurt.
Wouldn’t be the 1st or last injury mismanagement by this mgmt group

For likely much longer than us delusional Nucks fans think.
I suspect the reason he signed a 6yr deal, & not 8yr initially is because he saw the ownership interference, short term solutions, lack of plan. Similar to McDavid’s recent deal, “show me we can win, or I’m out”

Unfortunately that core wasn’t as good as we thought/think.
1 lightning in a bottle season and 1 playoff round victory.
JT’s performance and speed has fallen off a cliff with NYR, Demmer = injuries. Petey is 75% back to pre-knee tendinitis (I refuse to blame it all on JT), Hughes wanted out…

Shot speed seems to have recovered to pre-JT Miller fued levels. Skating speed a ways to go

Agree trending positively, probably performing around a $9M/AVV range with current mix of offence, face offs and defence.
A fast, high skill, elite passing winger on his wing would help. Can’t imagine how the Nucks could get one 🙄

Agree that Kai’s versatility and aerial ability will likely return him to #1 when healthy. Considering UTD paid €85M for Sesko, €63M for Gyokeres does several things:
1) Cover/competition until G Jesus healthy
2) Funds for Mosquera/Eze
3) Likely funds available for January

Excellent objective look at the underlying data.
Agree that mitigating against single mistakes or opposition moments of brilliance is importance, but the underlying control of games and restriction of XGA is very encouraging.

Where are the Celebration Police when you truly need them?
December 25, 2025 at 8:18 PM
Unfortunately, Sweeney is a pretty astute GM, managing to keep them very competitive post 2011 Cup
(11/15 playoff seasons during his tenure), and drafting well.
Notables: McAvoy, Debrusk and Lohrei.
Zero chance that pick gets traded.

Source?
This has the stench of unsourced innuendo and rumour.
December 21, 2025 at 10:33 PM
Unless he can put together a run of form and health for 40+ games, I think that window is already closed
December 18, 2025 at 11:51 PM
I would add further, that there are lots of bandwagon jumpers in this market, but also a VERY dedicated core fanbase.
Big if…PA/JR sat down and said “look, 2-3 years of pain, top 3 picks, plan is to contend with a sustained run of dominance”, 80% of core fans would be buy in.
December 18, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Yes, and have been passionate about this team since the 80’s.
December 18, 2025 at 6:04 PM
What do you think Sherwood’s “fair market value” is, in today’s NHL?
Similar players have gone for a protected 1st, or 2nd & prospect at recent trade deadlines.

I agree, Nucks need 10 more guys like him…but paying him $4.5M/yr during a rebuild makes no sense.
December 18, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Yes, and the key here is avoiding short term “fixes” (the prototypical Canucks under FA ownership approach).
Patience, accumulation of draft picks, weaponize the cap.
Several top 3 picks in consecutive years are essential to build a legit contender
December 18, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Agree, great character guy, high energy, hits etc etc. Likely a good fit for a Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, etc

If you can get a late 1st & maybe a prospect from a team in win-now mode, that’s a win.
December 18, 2025 at 5:28 PM
I disagree. If they’re going to make lemonade from this horrible year, maximize prospects and 1st/2nd round picks.
Practice facility is a festering sore for 10yrs, and you’re not going to magically convince FA to commit $10M+ for a building he can’t make a single $ off
December 14, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Goodly morning gents!
Uninspired performance, but got the result and 3 points.

If you had to prioritize 2 incoming transfers in January to bolster the squad for the run-in, what would they be?
For me: young, speed demon winger/striker (raw, unfinished product); backup centre back
