Trading Castellanos would be bittersweet. In just three seasons, Castellanos has embraced the city and created countless postseason memories. However, a trade would create roster flexibility for 2025 and 2026 that the team simply can’t ignore.

While Castellanos dramatically improved his strikeout rate in 2024, his chase and whiff rates remained abysmal. All that combined with a low walk rate creates an incredibly flawed hitter.
His counting stats will fluctuate from year to year, but his approach will never change.

Taijuan Walker would be ideal, but a salary dump would require prospect capital that the Phillies wouldn’t entertain. That brings us to Nick Castellanos. As polarizing a player as they come, Castellanos is set to make $40 million over the next two seasons. That’s a lot of money.

Alec Bohm’s name has been thrown around in trade rumors since their postseason exit. The Phillies claim they want to shake up the lineup, but Bohm is cost effective and the exact type of hitter that the Phillies need. Unloading a larger contract should be the team’s focus.
