I’m not into it when the AI tells me to read the base document.
I’m working on a longer form post about using AI in congressional affairs. It’s not done but it’s close.

In other news I got the open weight chat gpt model going on my Mac with ollama. If you have a machine with 32gb ram it works pretty good.

I’m so stoked this works. Bang on, the first time, correct.

I did it! I figured out how to write a legislative analysis AI prompt to get the AI to return the result I wanted.

It turns out I had not properly understood the memory limitation. I adjusted my prompt & bingo it found every reference I was looking for, and correctly summarized them.

I picked up my AI project again. I started testing google gemini deep research. The results were not bad. With that said it feels like chat gpt is just better at understanding my prompts. Anyway, not a ton more to report.

Next project: Python scripting api calls to do some bill tracking on Congress.gov - they have a nice api library.

AI has to be so good that I don't need to check it's work. But I have not yet identified a single work task where that isn't true. Perhaps it can order me an uber, but, like this week when I needed to analyze a 1500 page bill it's not cool for the AI to tell me to read the bill.

After seeing @emilyliu.me 's post this morning about using Bluesky for the comments section on her site, I had to try it.

Here's a writeup on how to do it, with everything you need to set it up yourself in five minutes.

Leave a comment on this post to test it out!

President-elect Trump is keeping the names of the donors who are funding his transition effort secret, in a break from tradition that could make it impossible to see what interest groups, businesses or wealthy people are helping launch his second term.
Trump Is Running His Transition Team on Secret Money
Breaking with past practice, President-elect Donald J. Trump has not agreed to disclose the donors paying for his planning effort or to limit their contributions.
