Also curious about this. I know this is a thing for Russian fansubbing scene (there's www.fansubs.ru), but I never saw a central repository like this for English subs. Only certain groups uploading subs to their own websites

That also feels like humanization to me tbh. To lie you have to have some beliefs and to knowingly tell something that does not align with your beliefs.
