Some use 'repatriation' and 'rematriation' interchangeably, but there are distinctions. Equally, some may use 'restitution' instead of 'rematriation' to mean something broader than the simple return of physical items.

Repatriation is the physical return of cultural objects or ancestral remains to their original community. Rematriation involves the return of cultural items, land and knowledge with a deeper meaning of restoring holistic relationships, balance & power rather than just the physical act of return.

Couple of years ago attending a talk by a military museum's curator…

Q&A: Ret’d Maj-Gen insisted military museums should exist solely to share a regt's history with current soldiers. Not for family days out!

I'm giving this talk at Buckler's Hard on Friday. It's free, but donations to the Buckler's Hard Shipyard Trust are gratefully received.

Talk tells the story of the village and how the Royal Navy requisitioned the Beaulieu River and Buckler's Hard during WW2.
