There should be public housing on that land. There is no excuse for it not to be built there. "$40 million in public coffers" sounds fine I guess but is it paying to build an equivalent amount of necessary dense low income housing in the area? Oh it's not? That's so weird

That's correct, but it doesn't make it right. Vacant public housing land is shitty, but a multi million dollar facility for an unpopular professional sports team on that land is a fuck you to the people of Chicago.

By that I mean they kicked local residents (who were being respectful) out of the ribbon cutting ceremony

That line is clearly baloney though. Farcical. If any of this was about the community, that land would still be used for good public housing.
