Lover of food, bourbon, the occasional cigar and all Mississippi State sports. Proud dad who embraces his lack of coolness. Startup founder and professional keyboard jockey living the dream/nightmare. I try not to post about politics but fail sometimes.
In one day I reviewed a difficult contract, created an image for our email signatures, finalized a policy for company expenses, did 5 code reviews and tested 3 programs in our dev partner’s domain. And that’s not counting the phone calls and Slack messages. Startups are crazy, but never boring!

I posted about our PTO decision. Well, it’s a startup, and we already changed our minds. PTO laws are just too difficult to manage across states where we have folks. So, unlimited we go!

We will have some policies in place to prevent abuse but ultimately we WANT people to take time off to refresh.

I hate the term Health Insurance. Insurance is a group paying a little money each in case an unlikely, expensive event happens to some of them.

Healthcare isn’t unlikely. It is inevitable. And the system we have only serves to strip money from actual care by appointing a middleman to deny services.

Even though I have an irrational hatred of all things HR, we just decided on PTO. We have staff in Mexico, Canada, Brazil and the US. Here is what we decided:

35 days a year use them however you please.

People need time to refresh and I don’t have to time to manage all the holidays in 4 countries.

I am one of the founders of a healthcare software startup. That takes most of my time and colors my perception on a bunch of issues. Discussing that perception, my experiences and hard earned wisdom(?) are my goals. Love this place! Feel free to ask me anything about healthcare or software or both.
