I do not "get it."
The DMV is full of people who are institutionalists through and through, even if they are extremely progressive in their viewpoints. It makes complete sense that these types of groups would feel this way, even if you think it's ineffective/wrong.

I'm not saying you're wrong, all I'm saying is it's possible to give your opinion that they are wrong without saying they've been infiltrated by ICE. If you're familiar with these groups, then you know they are mutual aid groups who have had to pivot to doing very different work.

Hey just commenting because seeing a lot of pile on - this makes a lot of sense if you're familiar with the DMV area and the type of folks who are drawn to direct action groups. Not saying their actual message is the right call, but I don't think this is like infiltration from ICE or whatever.

If you haven't listened already, I recommend Tansy Gardam's excellent podcast Going Rouge - at the end after spending so long with the film and knowing all its flaws, she is still unsure if the movie is "bad" or not podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/g...

Tom, why do you keep accepting WMATA's fare evasion numbers at face value?? These are misleading and you are perpetuating harmful narratives about bus riders and people who use public transit over all.

@51st.news @maustermuhle.bsky.social this has been a huge problem in local media for years - accepting WAMATA's numbers on fare evasion, even though they are clearly inaccurate and misleading - ggwash.org/view/86896/a...
Apples to hand grenades: Why transit fare evasion is an untimely distraction
Transit fare evasion gets headlines, but tackling it won’t fill WMATA’s budget deficit, and detracts from wider transportation problems that need solutions.

Also I doubt anyone is reading this but I am specifically talking about Senate and congressional candidates. Zohran is a different case, he is publicly funded, he is not using his online presence to fundraise beyond getting his matched donations.

I don't think there's anything wrong with raising lots of small $ donations from national supporters, but in a lot of cases national support doesn't translate to support in-state. I think a lot of work still to do within the dem party on figuring out how to create a solid bench of good candidates.

I think this passage is the most apt in the article:

Until there's radical restructuring of the party, I don't have much hope anything will change much. There are plenty of folks working for Dem groups who have great ideas, a desire for grassroots campaigning and a good sense of how to talk to voters, but they are usually ignored.
