This was my sports experience as a trans girl: I played basketball and football in high school. I played on boys’ teams as I was pre transition and was still desperately trying to prove myself as “man enough” for my male classmates. Obviously I was never going to accomplish that.

Bathroom bans? We’ll hold it. Plan better. Or just go anyway.

Sports bans? We’ll find other ways to support and show love and acceptance to our younger trans siblings.

Take away our health care? We’ll find a way to get what we need. Like we always have.

I don’t think most people know how far we’re willing to go. I’m kinda just figuring out how to be a grownup. But I’ve met and talked with so many trans men and women who’ve been living life on their own terms for decades. The resolve is inspiring. They shine for me; a beacon in the sad uncertainty.
