Another trick is to walk away or do something else after giving the compliment. Don't wait for a reply. That way, there's no expectation for the person to react to the compliment and it's showing that you said it purely as an observation instead of a transaction.

Hahaha 100%. At work I had a customer use ChatGPT to argue with me and it was literally just parroting what I said with, "This is unclear" in the text and I was like, "Bitch if you need AI to tell me you don't understand something, I can't help you."
