Spleen from an anole 🦎 with pigmented macrophage hyperplasia!

Pigmented macrophages are a common cell type seen in reptiles, amphibians, and fish! Pigmented macrophage hyperplasia is extremely common in geriatric reptiles but could be seen with immune stimulation.

Happy #SkullSaturday featuring a hammer-headed bat 🦇 Hypsignathus monstrosus is the only bat of this genus and is the largest in sub Saharan Africa! They have a large wing span of 1 meter and have marked sexual dimorphism!

They are of least concern on the IUCN red list!

Very delayed #MicroscopeMonday but presenting the Epigonal organ of a freshwater ray!

Epigonal organ is a particular organ of elasmobranchs (sharks, skates, and rays) that is associated lymphoid and reproductive function!

It is attached to the ovary or testes of the cartilaginous fish! 🦈

Forgot to do #MicroscopeMonday yesterday!!

Impression smear from a fish spleen with a white nodule grossly

This is an acid-fast cytology stain highlighting acid-fast bacilli consistent with Mycobacteria species!

Many of this genus affect fish particularly in the M. marinum group!

Happy #SkullSaturday! Here we have two Puma concolor skulls! Top is a museum specimen. Known as mountain lion, cougar, puma, Florida panther, and catamount, these cats used to span all through the United States and down to South American in Patagonia. Eastern subspecies has been declared extinct.

Primary differential: renal carcinoma

Renal carcinomas are common tumors to occur in parakeets and parrots that frequently result in unilateral lameness due to compression of the sciatic nerve!
