ayo the anduin wrynn thing was so good, i remember that. you're right, and tbh this does fall within the purview of grimdark storytelling. there's rlly good psych in 'the fall' especially if, after understanding the protag, it feels like a logical conclusion

that's one of my faves too🫀 I also fw the idea of a slow, entropic descent into an inevitable end. it casts a shadow of melancholy on a world enduring a elongated death throes and makes everything the characters do cast through a 'does this matter?' lens. makes for some great philosophy

yes. i call it the 'energy tithe'. most people just don't have the time leftover after exhausting themselves at a 9-5 (or more) to throw into learning/developing skills for what they might be passionate abt. it requires the very ethic you describe to escape and reclaim that tithe. sucks.

Talent isn't rare. Throw an apple & you hit someone with talent. Perseverance? rare. Work ethic? exceedingly rare; the willingness to grind. Being able to endure the scorn, rejection & privation a life in the arts dooms you to in the United States is unicorn-scarce. But talent? Talent is everywhere.

just did a rough tally on my nautical horror novel, The Reply. in the last 2 months, I've logged ~570 hours between writing (45k words), illustrating, & lore exploration.
that's nearly double a standard full-time job. the abyss, it seems, demands a tithe. happy to pay it tho. ⚓
