Chicken butts are Japan’s way of saying “grill it, put tare (teriyaki sauce) on it, and almost anything is edible”

Also wasabi on a grilled chicken skewer shooting up from your mouth straight up your nasal passages is a cheap thrill

Yakitori sizzling hot from the grill, 80s hair metal playing in the background and an overflowing glass of 日本酒. Just koenji on a wednesday night. No complaints at all

Got a seat on the chuo line 😅 and made it to my first AM meeting with enough time to spare to have that Tokyo « breakfast of champions » (aka shove a rice ball down my gullet)

Village Vanguard’s manga section is an example of shelving/merchandising manga by author and general vibes instead of by title, A-Z as they do in the US.

I’m sure it’s harder to manage, but i discover more new reads this way.

I enjoy seeing a manga creator’s early works & their commentary about it, because it reminds fans/aspiring mangaka that no one starts out by creating polished, perfect art — it takes time and a willingness to commit to growth over time. From Shin’ichi Sakamoto’s exhibit in Tokyo
November 2, 2025 at 11:40 AM
Glad it was easy to use my phone to translate his commentary, because it was really interesting to see Sakamoto-sensei’s comments about his work & the ideas behind them. We’re lucky that “The Climber” and “Innocent” are available in English from VIZ Media & @darkhorse.com
November 2, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Checked out the Shin’ichi Sakamoto 35th anniversary / retrospective at Yurakucho Marui and wow, it is astonishing! The care put into his manga pages are even more awe-inspiring when seen up close.
