I think of this proverb every time I create art depicting food.

Highlights from the Bucks County Community College exhibition, Art That Blooms, a joint project of the #art and #floraldesign departments. These were examples of floral designs created in response to paintings.
The acrylic painting on the wall depicts three abstracted cabbage roses using a boldly fauvist palette on a graphic background dominated by vividly colored rays emerging from a central point. The oversized bouquet echoes the painting’s palette with deep yellow, orange, and red roses, eucalyptus sprigs, and a cascade of glittery plastic pinwheels. The floral designer interpreted a still life depicting bottles of various shapes and sizes with a series of tightly packed monochromatic bouquets, each one a different shape and each composed of a single species. Genius! To complement the honeycomb-patterned artwork on the wall (upper right) the designer created a five-foot high arrangement of bamboo and orchids. The floral designer interpreted a boldly striped abstract painting with tight straight rows of single varieties of blooms, including roses, daisies, and mums.

Autumn has come to my studio at the barn. The trees declined to peak at the sane time this year but opted instead for an extended season. First it was mostly green with just a little color; now mostly red and gold but with some patches already growing bare.

In between, a swath of lawn still green but strewn all over with browned fallen leaves. Barely visible in the foreground, a cluster of late-blooming wildflowers and a clump of weeds with seed heads catching the fading light.

A favorite #collage from a few years ago, the one I use on my business cards. This was made entirely from magazine clippings pasted on canvas board. No paint. No other type of paper. Just very careful color selection.

Spent 2.5 hours delighting in Chanticleer gardens this afternoon. Of all the pleasure gardens I’ve visited, this is the one that struck me most as being the work of someone I’d like to have known.
Ferns, hosta, assorted forest plants, and the most enormous puff ball fungus I’ve ever seen. View of the pond from the wisteria-covered pergola. The trees which appear to be covered blossoms were actually releasing thousands of downy seeds into the air. Just a path through the wooded lower section of the property. Mixed border with a variety of hostas, grasses, asters, and other plants in front of a large-leaf hydrangea.

The collage pictured is 12” high by 9” wide. It features a non-repeating pattern of triangles cut from scraps of wallpaper. One scrap is an off-white color with beige, another is patterned with bold stripes of black and puce, the third is a medium gray mottled with spots of lighter gray. All three samples came from Farrow Ball.
