Project 2025 warned us of the intention to disrupt civil society, but I am baffled by tariffs and other actions to destroy the US economy. Don't they know that it's a crap shoot who ends up profiting from economic and social chaos? It's pure hubris to imagine they will "win."

About the idea of combining Canada and the US: If Canada acquires the US, we get universal health care, sane gun laws, and another time zone for domestic travel. Sounds good to me.
But I doubt they want the hassle of a bunch of unruly folks from the south.

I've always liked the genre of scifi speculative fiction in which all the peoples of Terra become united in the face of an alien threat. It never occurred to me before that the alien threat might actually be from my own country, but here we are. The world is watching.
