My son and s grown now, but I remember the first time he went to a convenient store and then a grocery store. He was thrilled to be so independent!

A friend and I bicycled around Europe for a year in the mid-1970s. In the spring of 76, we did a 2-week train ride to Moscow, St Petersburg and Poland. We’d heard people wanted books so carried what we could. We gave them to people who asked. It was an amazing experience!

My father was in a sub in the Pacific, at least two uncles were in Europe in the army.
