Well they don’t call you Board Game Cold Takes

Player interaction? I got your player interaction right here 👊

Some of you have never placed 4 tiles and drawn 6 seed cards in a single turn of Apiary and it really shows.

When Brendan says reviewing Dominion is like reviewing Starry Night, I can only assume this is the kind of thing he is talking about.

I'm incredibly excited to announce Origin Story, a 1-5 player competitive engine-building, trick-taking game co-designed by me (Jamey) and Pete Wissinger. Your inner superhero will emerge one chapter at a time in a comic-book style tableau in this 45-minute game. stonemaiergames.com/games/origin...

This is a great review. I’be been playing a lot of Apiary recently, and one thing that I think gives it a nudge towards competitive play is how complex turn sequencing can be.

Players have many decisions to make on their turn, and I think play skill here can mitigate some of the tile randomness.

On the audio format it is so hard to calibrate this right imo.

We can go long on how/why the game presents interesting decisions, and then I catch myself thinking, is anyone following this? And then I want to throw in some more exposition of how the game works to ground listeners.

Steal. This game slaps if you haven’t played it.

Weird coming from the guy who said, “Trick-taking is bad in general,” but I’ll give it a listen. 😉

Today's episode of @decisionspace.bsky.social is a sort of love letter to the modern trick-taking design renaissance, a subject very near and dear to my heart.

The moral victory sash, the championship belt, and the guy who thought he was going to win the game.

It was a great Laughing Table Friends game night!

Also, Princes of Florence is really fun.
