If I could go anywhere in the world right now, it’d be the library near my first apartment.

They had an outside reading area.

What I wouldn’t give to be there right now, with a nice hot coffee and an obscure graphic novel I’m surprised they had.

Anyway, talking shit about bluegrass is extremely weird. Especially if you consider yourself a student of Americana - music or otherwise.

Like "I'm into Japanese food - not toro nigiri or wagyu though, just instant ramen."

Or "French chefs suck - they take so long and use all that butter. Gross."
"I didn't write about Robert Plant for fear that he would want to discuss two significant American art forms."

"sell it"?

why would he have needed to "sell it"?

"bluegrass shit" meaning... that significant American art form is... unimportant?

Blind Willie Johnson is connected to this thought how?

wut?
Sidebar: I was recently offered a sit-down with Robert Plant--how about you guys just hang out!!--but I could not sell it. I think editors thought "this is gonna be about that bluegrass shit, isn't it. They're gonna talk about Blind Willie Johnson aren't they."

The Led Zeppelin reunion was the opposite of "works great" - Robert Plant very specifically being not great.

The show was so bad that Zep said "Don't include that shit on whatever record" and the Live Aid folks were like, "Yeah... that sounds right."

Did some bluegrass with Krauss 22 years later.
I know this is old man stuff, but it's so funny that Robert Plant does one reunion show with Led Zeppelin, it works great, they threaten a tour that would make a billion dollars, he says nah, then he promptly runs away to make slowcore bluegrass for the rest of his life.

@cbcstephenquinn.bsky.social extremely weird to listen to you effectively advocating for hoarding. Pushing someone to "admit" that people should be allowed to hang on to an "investment property" because, after all, they might want to use it later...

I'm lost for words. Hope it was Devil's advocate.

Yeah great analogy except Russiagate was real, the GOP got clobbered while it was ongoing, Trump was president when it happened, and there’s a long history of racial panics mattering electorally. But otherwise bang on
I’m increasingly convinced that DEI will be the GOP’s Russiagate: a huge distraction on which they will waste a ton of energy only to discover that no one believes them or cares about it.
