Genuinely not sure if Sam Altman actually put "I am Sam" on his forehead at some point, or the cartoonist needed to label him because he has less distinguishing features than a piece of chalk. Both options seem equally believable. Also I can pick up a copy.

Also: I don't think of this as a genuinely held belief. At least not 100% of the time. It's more often a deliberate tactic to cultivate plausible deniability and an air of responsibility. Eg. I don't know why you're upset, I've been more than polite.

It's so hard to put a name on that, because it's so embedded in everything. And because the idea of rudeness/civility is really subjective it's harder to call out. But it's definitely a move designed to make people be quiet.
