Know someone new to astrophotography? For the past few months, I've tried creating a list of the most used astro terms that beginners need. I analyzed over 2 MILLION words from beginner forums, figured out the most common 130+ terms and made a video. It will be released in less than 24 hours.

I'm pretty impressed. I'll have a couple videos about them coming soon. One of the videos will examine 5nm bandpass filters with 12nm bandpass filters. Camera: ZWO 294MM pro, scope Orion 80mm ED doublet. It still needs more exposure time, but it's not bad :)

I've been testing out some new 5nm SHO filters (fully funded by me and my YT and BMC supporters; not sent to me) on several targets. This is a test of the heart nebula (IC 1805). It's about 1.5 hours for each filter (so, about 4.5 hours total).

I took these with my C8 during galaxy season a few months ago. I'm just getting to processing them because life happens and sometimes you just don't have the time. ZWO 294 MM camera with about 6 hours of L and 1.5 hours of RGB. Processed in @siril.org , @gimpofficial.bsky.social and AstroSharp.

I've zoomed in on the L filter and have included annotations for what SiriL could detect. We're looking into the deep past here. NGCs 6045 and 6047 are estimated to be about 450 million light years away. Crazy!

There are a ton of galaxies in this image. In the middle are NGC 6045 and 6047. If you zoom in and look, there are edge on galaxies, interacting galaxies, merging galaxies. It's a galaxy extravaganza!

NGC 6384 is such a beautiful galaxy, and a great example of an intermediate barred spiral. I got around 14 hours of integration time at f/10 with my Celestron C8. It's still too noisy at the edges, and definitely needs more time.

...with dark and flat frames to calibrate the final image. With about one hour of exposure, I got this picture with some help from @gimpofficial.bsky.social. For bortle 5/6 skies, it's a decent #astrophotography image with a phone.

A 1 hour time lapse of the Milky Way taken with my S24 phone (raw images using the ProShot App) in Bortle 5 skies. A motion sensing flood light kept turning on, unfortunately. I think bugs were flying in front of the sensor. Processed in @siril.org with flats and darks #astrophotography #milkyway

The moon from a couple nights ago taken with my C8 and 294MM camera. Around 800 frames stacked in Autostakkert. Processed in BiggSky and @gimpofficial.bsky.social

What is one of my favorite noise reduction tools? It's not AI. It's free. It can be used in Gimp, Photoshop and Affinity Photo. Can you guess what it is?

I am so behind on my processing. This is about 20 hours of HaRGB data, first iteration of processing. I may go back and tweak it. Maybe the colors are off. What do you think?

Should be an easy solve for @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social, I hope!

Tomorrow, I'll be publishing a video with some less-known tips for astrophotography :)

What started out as "just a simple video" about what we know regarding AI deconvolution turned out to be a bigger project than I intended. I'll be publishing it tomorrow evening for the public.

1/8 Alright. So. I know it's been a while. But... ahem... Um... Well, I've been working on AstroSharp for a while, trying to improve the tool and make it comparable to BlurX and Cosmic Clarity.

Tomorrow, things get weird. A video will be coming out on shot noise. Hope you watch!

Planetary Imaging with a Raspberry Pi? You bet! It actually works surprisingly well with an M.2 Hat. I've been doing some imaging tonight, and below are the stats. Video I did about it is here from a few months back: youtu.be/t68DsXLESh0

This is my edit of the galaxy I asked my viewers to process. @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social already solved it, but just in case!

I'm wondering if @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social can solve a screenshot of a the target I'm currently imaging? (I'm guessing it will succeed)
January 25, 2025 at 3:05 AM
This is the result of ~30 hours of total exposure time, and was my first edit using only @siril.org and Gimp (no AI tools). I usually process things like 3 times. But, I've since processed it 2 more times, but didn't like the results as much. I'm not complaining! Just surprised at the first edit!
