Birmingham, Alabama. In 2025 I’m relaunching a podcast, “Deep South History.”
I live in Alabama, where state Democratic Party incompetence is a long, sad tale with many chapters, and it seems it will never end. New York Dems may not know it, and would never admit it, but they are following in Alabama's footsteps.

"Kami Mamdami" — I suppose he was tripped up by a confused memory of Zohran's middle name, Kwame. And this is the only quote his staff could find that, if wrested out of context and heard from paranoid premises, sounds kinda scary.

I was there yeeeears ago looking for ancestors, with no plan. I remember Salem as a cool place to explore with way too much witch kitsch. (The real witch trials were down the road in Salem *Village*, now Danvers.) Also want to go back.

Agreed, "really cool" is the least that can be said. 🙂 I suppose the OP was trying to be funny, but there is something sublime about seeing humanity reflected back to us in such an ancient mirror.

Thanks for the gift link to the Miami Herald article — sadly the Herald site is so loaded with cruft that I can barely read it, and redirecting to a plaintext reader is forbidden. Somehow publishers don’t see how these sluggish yet twitchy, jerky pages actively discourage reading.

Sorry, the link is too choked with ads to read. It replaced itself with an ad that failed to load.

That is *not* how it’s done.

Kudos to the TX Dems though.

I’m not upset by a statue of an advocate for Indian tribes who resigned his command in protest and was accused of treason against the CSA. Re-erecting the Pike statue is bait, & Dems in Congress must not take it. I want them to stand against this present admin., not one defeated in 1865.

It’s like you’re channeling Gen. Phil Sheridan about 100 yrs ago: “If I owned hell and Texas, I’d rent Texas and live in hell.”

Ooh, ugh, you went and talked to *people*? And touched things other people had used? 🤢 — Seriously, I think neurotic misanthropic disgust is driving a lot of this “innovation.”

Silly, the AI agents will run the bowling alley, schedule your friends’ lives for them, etc. Mere meat-based agents will simply follow directions and avoid causing trouble for the AI agents. No problem! <s>

It *would* be a problem if the book were a work of journalism rather than of conformity to the new emphasis at CNN on flogging product.

Bentham's ideas have some undesirable outcomes if applied mechanically. Even he tweaked his ideas in order to excuse usury. (He was a fan.)
