After he’d come back, Abigail had eased into confessing that the vaguely-described “friends” who’d helped enable his resurrection were supervillains. The red deer had been surprised, sure, but once he’d had a chance to think it over, not bothered? He’d never been hardcore into the law enforcement part of being a Hero, even as a shithead teen bully who’d liked the idea of good pay and benefits (and society’s respect) for beating up people weaker than him. Working for Blauvin Bros. had cured Doug of that; he’d gotten to know and like the company’s regular crew and recurring day labourers, and gradually learned how many had been screwed over by hardass cops and border guards and parole officers. After that, he hadn’t minded so much about Dad deciding that “Junior” would go into the family business instead of going pro as a Hero.
