On 15 December 2005, the F-22 entered service with the US Air Force. Developed under the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) programme it was primarily intended as an air superiority fighter while also integrating capabilities for ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence.
