The Home Office sham "consultation" on cumulative protests closed on 29 September, so this immediate announcement shows Labour had already decided – yet again – to expand public order powers, well before the Manchester attack that is now used to justify it

It is not unlawful to oppose the proscription of Palestine Action.

This is one of many unlawful arrests over recent weeks, not including over 2,000 people who have been arrested for holding signs stating “I oppose genocide - I support Palestine Action”.

UNLAWFUL ARREST

This woman was arrested for holding a sign with “I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action” on it, a totally lawful statement to make, even under the Labour government’s absurd new laws proscribing the direct action group.

“Ministers are to give police new powers to target repeated protests, aimed particularly at cracking down on demonstrations connected to Gaza, the Home Office has said.”

They’re enabling a genocide and silencing opposition. This is authoritarianism.

Police to get broader powers to crack down on repeated protests
The move is not a ban on protests but "about restrictions and conditions", Shabana Mahmood tells the BBC.

A police officer unnecessarily kneels on the chest of a peaceful protestor, before arresting him for a 'terror' offence for holding a sign which says "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action"

"Palestine remains the story"

As a protestor is carted off by police for holding a sign against genocide and the Palestine Action ban, she states that genocide in Gaza remains the story.

We won't be silenced whilst our government is participating in murdering Palestinians.

BREAKING: Protestors in Rome hold signs against genocide and the Palestine Action ban, in solidarity with those facing arrest in Trafalgar Sq today.

The movement against genocide is global, and it rejects labelling those who disrupt the Israeli weapons industry as 'terrorists'.

BREAKING: Devon and Cornwall Police did NOT arrest protestors today for signs which say "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action"

In sharp contrast, Met police are mass arresting protestors in Trafalgar Square for holding the same signs, despite claiming limited resources.

Police arrest peaceful protestors under the Terrorism Act for silently holding signs in opposition to genocide and the Palestine Action ban.

The absurd proscription was a huge political misstep that has led to over a thousand people arrested for sign holding. It must be lifted.

BREAKING: Banner drop on Westminster Bridge ahead of the mass silent vigil taking place in Trafalgar Square today.

The banner says "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action"

As the genocide escalates in Gaza, and our rights to oppose it are under threat, we must resist.

“As a Jewish person… I’m very disturbed and appalled and grieving for what’s happened in Manchester yesterday, I’m also grieving for the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been murdered, displaced, and starved in Gaza” - Zoe explained on BBC R4 why she supports DOJ.

You’re right, that is a silly message. Seems like you’re inciting violence?

“Cancel pro-Palestine marches, Home Secretary demands”

Lift The Ban on Palestine Action. End UK complicity in genocide.

Also, not a march, tomorrow’s event is a peaceful vigil in opposition to genocide. Always has been.

ACTION TO GO AHEAD AS PLANNED

Today, the Metropolitan Police wrote to us to ask that we postpone Saturday’s mass protest in Trafalgar Square, citing “significant pressure on policing”.

Our response in short: Don’t arrest us then.
