Hi! My name is Pedro and I'm a paleoartist and paleontology student from Portugal! From now on i will be sharing my artowork on this platform!
A portrait of Cariocecus bocagei, a basal hadrosauroid ornithopod described this year by
@fbertpaleo.bsky.social et al., from the Early Cretaceous of Portugal!

The holotype was found in Setúbal, in the rocky outcrops of the Papo Seco Formation, where Iberospinus natarioi was also found!

New paper by my friend Sofia Patrocínio:

"The oldest definitive docodontan from central East Greenland sheds light on the origin of the clade"

It was a pleasure to illustrate the new taxon, Nujalikodon cassiopeiae, for this paper!

Here's a Lusognathus i did last year as a commission for Paleontologist Alexandra Fernandes.
This species was the first pterosaur described from Portugal, although remains of this group are known from all over the country. The holotype was found in Praia do Caniçal, Lourinhã.

Supersaurus lourinhanensis might be the only named Diplodocid from Portugal, but remains of this group are present across the lusitanian basin. Take this HUGE partial femur from Quinta da Aguieira, Lisbon as example. You can see Dippy's (CM84) femur next to it for comparison.

If you thought Lourinhasaurus was big, well here is Lusotitan atalaiensis.

A HUGE brachiosaurid from Late Jurassic Portugal that is famously being featured in the 2025 reboot of Walking with Dinosaurs!

Enjoy!

The Andrés Quarry in Leiria, Portugal, where rocks of the Alcobaça Fm. flourish, has yielded a ton of Allosaurus material, including much of the skull.

This reconstruction is based on the material described, measured and figured in Elisabete Malafaia 's PhD Thesis.

Lourinhasaurus was a massive Camarasaurid from Late Jurassic Portugal. Despite having Lourinha in it's name, it was found 35+ Km inland, in Alenquer.
The Lusitanian basin spans far inland from the productive coasts of west Portugal, where remains of titans lie to this day.

My poster on the life appearance of Megalosaurus, as presented at SVPCA 2024. A paper on this, and the history of M. reconstructions, is currently in the system and should (hopefully!) be published later this year. Posting this in the interim as a poss. useful #paleoart reference. #Sciart #dinosaur

“Inical, Initeocal in Huitzilopochtli”

The House and Temple of Huitzilopochtli - Commissioned by Trey the Explainer.

This is my interpretation of the sanctuary of Huitzilopochtli, one of two magnificent chapels that once crowned the Great Temple of Mexico-Tenochtitlan.

Here is my restoration of Zby atlanticus displaying a huge inflated air sac!
These air sacs would take a long time to fill and I imagine the male Zby in mating season gulping down air continuosly for hours before they start showing off to females!

Machairodus aphanistus

Revised version of my previous portrait. Worked it over some more, improved the spots and textures, and at my co-advisor's behest I drew him licking his lips to show off his canines. Done in Clip Studio Paint.

Chalicomys jaegeri

A beaver ancestor. There isn't much material for this little rodent, had to infer a lot of info from Steneofiber, Sinocastor, modern beavers and musk-rats (the Rodentia kind, not the Xitter kind). Done in Clip Studio Paint.

Gomphotherium angustidens

I honestly don't know what the f*ck was up with proboscideans (jk I do). Especially Gomphotheres. But whatever they were doing must have been right, with the way they exploded in diversity up until the Pleistocene. Done in Clip Studio Paint.
