But this should not be some doom posting, true reality and its ongoing struggles is still out there and being fought for every day, in these strange and arduous times the best way to keep a level head is to do the little things available to you, even the smallest actions can make a huge difference.

Every once in a blue moon I get the urge to revisit it as something more in depth as its own alien world, but I'd rather start from the ground up that way.

I was quite pleased with that iteration, and felt I left things on a high note as I had to shift gears for a little while after.
They once lived in a dark frozen world, but they thrived in it as easily as we a summer's day. Their clothing was layered and richly dyed, precious baubles braces and charms decorated their bodies in part ceremony and pride. They looked down on us, for they were made to be the perfect reflection of those who came before, or so they would say. Yet still, downtrodden and scarce were they, clinging onto their culture desperately in their conclaves wherever they could. Their technology was largely lost in the crisis that wrought them from their world, but many would be interested in recovering it as it was quite distinct from common industry. They had made artificial organism of living tissue and precision auricalcum machinery that could be controlled psychologically via neurological interfacing. Many would never find home again, and their long, slow lifespans could mean eternities of isolation as their focus on preserving tradition would put them at odds with whomever would take them in.

The design evolved quite a lot actually, and I would pick them up and drop them again for several years, especially during covid. I was never quite satisfied. More lore in alt text :P
I took a step back to try to work out just what their world would be like as I understood world shapes the people within it. I was obsessed with doing it from the ground up, to make a truly alien supernatural world of my own. What would a primordial realm built on the detritus of creation be like? Why are they so elusive today if they were so grand in their time? Why are they on our world and not their own? If they were so magnificent in eons past, what reduced them to this? When I picked the project back up, they were in a new setting, a different one from whence they came. They were truly aliens now, cthonic in theming but now bound to a planet shrouded in celestial anomaly Always the type to want to start from the ground up, I began depicting their various subcultures, believing that it would open up more avenues for stories to be told. Even though they were in a more science fiction oriented setting now, I still wanted them to have an aura of fantasy. I'm stubborn like that. And ever stubborn, I wanted to preserve their primordial themes, giving them an ancient, near-precursor species timeline that presented them as the remnants of fallen glory, cast from their paradise as punishment for their hubris.
