Album Of The Day: Transparent by LaRue

Released 25 years ago last week, this is the 2nd album from the brother-sister duo of Phillip & Natalie LaRue. They wrote all these songs themselves and have a good mix of pop & rock. Their vocals are both excellent and distinct and their harmonies are magic.

Album Of The Day: The Kid by Thad Cockrell

Released 2 years ago today, this is his 5th album as a solo artist. It's a long album that mixes pop, rock, country & soul & it's definitely well-done musically. The songs are personal & fun, lyrics about his life & love with a few religious references.

Album Of The Day: You Are Fullness by Young Oceans

Released 5 years ago this month, this is the 4th studio album of new songs by the indie-pop/soft-rock moniker of Eric Marshall. He writes songs of praise & prayer to God and fashions beautiful, epic music beds to go with these melodies.

Album Of The Day: Live by Jennifer Knapp

Released 20 years ago today, this the first live album from this folk-rock musician most. This is an excellent collection of recordings that captures how Jennifer's live shows differed from the album versions, at least when performing with the full band.

Album Of The Day: Recognition by Carolyn Arends

Released 5 years ago yesterday, this is the 12th album by this Canadian singer-songwriter. I haven't listened to it much since it's release, but it's a good album & I enjoyed my listen today. Her lyrics are honest and have some fun turns of phrase.

Album Of The Day: Native Tongue by Switchfoot

Released 7 years ago last week, this is the band's 11th album. On this 14-track album, there's a song or two (if not more) for each Switchfoot fan, no matter if you like rock or pop or acoustic ballads. This isn't their best work but it's still quality.

Released this week 34 years ago, this is one of the coolest early '90s rock bands you have probably never heard of. This has a solid rock groove & zany lyrics even though the band never gained notoriety or radio airplay for this album back then.

This is an EP of hymns. Some of the tracks are beautiful, acoustic takes on classics like "Holy, Holy, Holy" while others are less well-known but not less beautiful. Arends also pens an original song and invites some friends to join her on this EP.

Released 5 years ago this past Thursday, this is his 9th vocal album. Peacock is less preaching the Gospel in his music of the last few decades but on this album reminiscing about his life and the lessons he's learned in this laid-back recording.

Album Of The Day: Muteamath by Mutemath

Released 20 years ago today, this is one of my favorite albums of all time. They created a masterpiece that combines frenetic drums, pounding bass, layers of keyboards & excellent guitar work to build a unique sonic landscape that is somehow even better live.

Album Of The Day: Let It Echo by Jesus Culture

Released 10 years ago this Thursday, this is the 9th album from this church worship collective. Like many modern church groups, they bring Coldplay-style arena pop/rock to a church setting. It's decent music trying to connect the Christian with God.

Released 10 years ago Thursday, this is the third in a series of "mixtape" albums from him that feature a bit less production & more freeform rapping than his normal albums. He defends himself from his critics & he also works to educate his listeners.

Released today, this is a brand-new album from this California-based rock band which has been making music for over 45 years. Their first album of original material in over 20 years, this contains 7 songs plus 4 bonus tracks from this Christian rock/alternative band.

It looks like a wall or floor because there's many different spots where the paint or the finish has worn away and you can see various colors or textures through it, and maybe also a few other bits where something scraped against it and left some color too.

Released 40 years ago yesterday, this is the 1st pop/rock album from one of my favorite Christian singer-songwriters. The '80s production sounds very dated to my ears & though this is not his best album, it's a promising start & still a good listen.

Released just over 28 years ago, this is the 2nd album from this rock band. The first 4 tracks are the best, from the explosive guitars of the first few to the infectious pop chorus of "Butterfly" & the slower tempo of "Everybody Needs Love".

Album Of The Day: Solace by Held By Trees

Held By Trees is an English post-rock band, and by that I mean it's music that is somewhat rock in style, but also uses a lot of other elements in a bit of an experimental way. This is their 1st full-length album & it's a laid-back, calm instrumental album.

Album Of The Day: The Ones We Never Knew by Holly Williams

This is debut album of Holly Williams, granddaughter of Hank Williams. I'm not a huge fan of country twang, but this has more of a pop/rock style than most Americana. This album is full of beautiful songs of love & broken relationships.

Released 10 years ago yesterday, this is the 11th album from the hardcore band from Georgia. It's a very unique mix of screaming, singing, tons of guitars, & even electronic elements. Lyrically, I like their mix of religious & macabre themes.

Released 50 years ago today, this is the 17th studio album by Dylan. It's classic rock with a full band and a bit of country elements too, it sounds to me. I do love epic songs & 6 of the album's 9 tracks are over 5½ minutes, with "Joey" over 11 minutes long.

Released 5 years ago this past December, this an EP of Christmas covers by the pop-punk band. They provide guitar-heavy punk rock versions of some Christmas carol classics like "O Come All Ye Faithful" & "O Holy Night" as well as lesser-known songs.

Released 14 years ago this season, this is the first Christmas album from She & Him, the duo of Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward. The result of their collaboration is an album of standards that is well-made, not over-produced, & has a timeless quality to it.

Released 15 years ago this season, this is the first joint album from Jill Phillips & her husband Andy Gullahorn. It's a beautiful album of Christmas carols, standards and even some originals are performed in their acoustic pop style.

This collection of 42 tracks totaling just over 2 hours is a mixed bag of Christmas carols & originals from a 5-year span. Some are brief instrumentals even shorter than a minute, while others are full-length songs with lush instrumentation.

Released 25 years ago this Christmas season, this was a bonus EP you could only get at certain retailers. It's not long, but it's got good versions of carols performed by bands on the Essential Records roster like Jars of Clay & Third Day.

Album Of The Day: Drummer Boy by Jars Of Clay

Released 30 years ago, this EP contains two Christmas songs & a few other recordings from one of my all-time favorite bands. This captures the earliest days of Jars of Clay & gives them a bit of Christmas musical repertoire, which they added to later.
