Life advice - unsolicited, but here you go:

1. There is no substitute for an amazing therapist (ideally, a hybrid psychoanalytical psychologist); and

2. Exfoliate + moisturize at least once daily.

You’re welcome.
At Kolasa’s Polish Peasant in Michigan City. My server calls me “darlin’” and I am 3 Angry Orchards in. 😂 Next up: the stuffed cabbage.

This place fucking rocks. Really glad it’s only a short walk back to the apartment…😂

I prefer these fresh-baked, but there was a Meijer nearby and the late bakers Rich & Jane Steenstra were my childhood neighbors in Michigan….so I can’t just leave them on the shelf as I pass by. 🇳🇱

Some of these older South Shore Line trains are pretty damn cozy…

My view from the balcony in Hamburg-Nienstedten of the Elbe River and passing “traffic” en route to the Baltic on May 17, 2017.

This morning, at Miller Station, as the outbound South Shore train arrived to whisk me and my bike to Dune Park, two stations and 12 minutes to the east, while a minimally-delayed inbound train departed from the opposite platform.

There is not! I first saw it last June when I took a Pilsen sublet before my Albany Park home became available. Then in October we visited during Open House. The use of brick in such a magnificent yet understated fashion reminds me of similar churches in Northern Germany and the Netherlands. My pix:

Quote of the evening

Sonja, friend of 30+ years:

“Dennis, your family just does not have the skill set to be in a happy relationship with you.”

Dennis: 💡

Pictured: Sonja and Dennis (a freshman, having packed on the “freshman 15” from cafeteria food) as college friends.

13 years??? 75 trips??? 59 reviews - all five star???

I know lots of people hate Airbnb, but I was an early fan (living and working in SF at the time of their launch) and have had maybe 2-3 bad experiences in those 75 stays. Seriously.

Here’s to 75 more!

Day #2: all alone on the Brown Line (although I suspect this *may* have something to do with it being 5:20 am). Boarded at Kimball as I do w/my bike (to scope out best possible seat while there’s standing time to do so). Still no one with me here in the third car and we’ve just left Southport (!).

Totally alone on the Brown Line. Heading to Kimball from Quincy, it cleared out at Fullerton and remains empty on the flyover.

Pratt’s Castle, Elgin, IL, photo taken by me this afternoon. I have biked by this several times this year (the Fox River Trail passes by it directly), but never has the light been so favorable as it was today.

Butera Supermercado on the south side of Elgin (not quite South Elgin; there’s a diff) has 16-oz cans of Low-Cal Sprecher Root Beer at the low price of 2/$3. No aspartame! I know I should be more discerning re the other ingredients, but aspartame has rung my internal alarm, it seems, for decades.
