If one takes the names which include a part of the name (for example Yehoshua) and combines those variants the most probable result comes to Yehuwa, which is close to Jehovah if we take into consideration the pronunciation shift y to j and the lesser sounding of the w to v sound in modern English.

It's Exodus 3:14. As you already stated it is a form of to be. So a native speaker would expect the vowels producing the pronunciation Jehovah. (e.g. see Roy Kotansky, Jeffrey Spier; George Wesley Buchanan)
