Dead Toms is out TOMORROW! It's perhaps the most beautifully rendered issue of the series yet, where Eric really focused on his cartooning and the results are predictably wonderful! And Jordie's ligne claire inspired approach elevates the whole thing to real art, IMHO.

It's filled with, I think, really unique, really beautiful voices, and creative zombie creations. Like -- Mouse-Pokes-Golf-Ball -Out-of-Head-Hole! Legs-WIthout-Top-Part-But-Doesn't-Let-That-Stop-Him! Skitters-Across-Your-Vision-Out-Of-The-Corner-Of-Your-Eye! And more!

This is a book that only works as a comic, for a lot of reasons. Chief among them, to make this work, you need a medium where the ugly can be beautiful. Rot, decay, gore, and grotesquery can be gorgeous here. Thanks to Stipan, they are.

It's sort of us doing with the zombie genre what we did with the superhero genre in 20th Century Men. Taking the language, tropes, and iconography of zombie stories and trying to tell deeply human (and humane) stories with them. Stories with -- wait for it -- HEART!

In one sentence, BLEEDING HEARTS is "zombies with feelings", or "walking dead if one of the zombies started having regrets about eating the living".
It's very different from your usual zombie story. Our zombies have culture, they have opinions, they talk to each other.
