I put this to the First Minister and he told me Scotland is now “reaching the limits of devolution”.

He later denied this was an admission the SNP was “running out of steam”.

John Swinney tells reporters he wants to “focus the debate on living standards” when it comes to Scottish independence.

He lays the blame for a decline in living standards squarely at Westminster’s door - no mention of the SNP Government making any mistakes since 2007.
