with the pool of democratic potential voters swollen with flipped Castro Gov voters and Beto loyalists at Lt. Gov, it would be very difficult to mount a defense for that senate seat whether it is cornyn or paxton. It is hard to run against religiously sound in Texas.

I think the dynamic of running an unknown who is a religious minded, sharper version of Mayor Pete is the kind of surprise upset candidate you need for the senate seat. The GOP can whip their voters with 'beto will take your guns'. They will struggle to whip the vote vs. an unknown as senator.
