I believe that I have every book about Billy Wilder that has ever been published in English, so when I saw that there was a new children’s picture book about him, I couldn’t resist – even though it looked like the cover was AI generated.

It sounds like @jlalibs.com may have signed a deal to bring a few Warner films to @cine-matographe.bsky.social. If that’s true, I can’t think of a film more in line with their ethos than Wilder’s Buddy Buddy. Here’s hoping whatever contractual issues have held it up have been cleared now.

119 years ago today, my favorite filmmaker was born, and just over 65 years ago his best film was released. Cheers to Billy Wilder and The Apartment. I love this floor plan of Bud’s Upper West Side apartment.

I look forward to seeing Walz on Only Murders, but the fact that he is filming it now makes me wonder about the status of Frears’ film adaptation of Mr. Wilder and Me. I thought that was supposed to go into production early this year. I really hope it is still happening! @jonathancoe.bsky.social?

This is such a great interview, thanks to both participants. Black Bag is Soderbergh’s best movie in years (and most of them have have been really good). It’s wild that the bravura opening tracking shot was a last minute addition done in reshoots.

I liked A Complete Unknown a lot, but it mostly made me realize how much I love Todd Haynes’ I’m Not There. US rights are with Lionsgate? I don’t think it has ever received a stateside Blu-ray release. Would love to see Criterion license it for the 4K set it deserves.
